Material remains of the life and death in trenches of the Eastern Front and the condition of the ever changing battelscape in the region of the Rawka and Bzura (1914-2014)<\/em> is dedicated to the material and social \u00a0memory of \u00a0&#8222;World War I Archaeology&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">The &#8222;Archaeology of\u00a0Conflict&#8221; have, over the last decade, been systematically implemented in<br \/>\nwestern European countries, mainly Belgium, France and England.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\"><strong> The results \u00a0of such studies not only enrich our knowledge of the events that transpired\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\"><strong> a century ago, but also deepen our respect for the material relics of the\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> past, awaken our sensitivity, and shape our historical awareness.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">Projects \u00a0of this type inspire considerable social interest and naturally translate to \u00a0efforts aimed at advancing the due protection and preservation of the\u00a0material relics of the recent past, as well as at stimulating cultural \u00a0tourism.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\"><strong>Meanwhile in Poland, the problems of World War I Archaeology (or \u00a0more precisely: issues related to the material and mental remains of 20th \u00a0century conflicts) continue to be marginalised.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\">Our \u00a0research team is\u00a0created to answer the urgent need to establish<br \/>\na new sub-discipline of archaeology dedicated to the problems, phenomena and<br \/>\nconcerns that have been so far neglected to the great detriment of science,<br \/>\nsociety and the historic substance of relics of the recent past.\u00a0 For<br \/>\nindeed, we are now witnessing a greatly accelerated process of ongoing decay<br \/>\nof the material remains of 20th century conflicts, which has intensified<br \/>\nover the last ten years due to progressing industrialisation of forested and<br \/>\nrural areas, as well as through the activities of so-called detectorists.Members of the research team devoted to the performance of these innovative<br \/>\nand groundbreaking (in both epistemological and ethic terms) research<br \/>\ncomprise a group of specialists deeply convinced of the viability of the<br \/>\nefforts to study and preserve the material remains of the Great War, and of<br \/>\nthe need to disseminate the popular knowledge of this unique turning point<br \/>\nin history.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\">Members of the team were carefully selected on the grounds of<br \/>\ntheir competence, field-work experience, and willingness to actively<br \/>\nparticipate in introducing a new quality to the field of archaeology in<br \/>\nPoland.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\">I strongly encourage to follow the progress of our research \ud83d\ude42<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\">we start the fieldwork at the \u00a0beginning of August.<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:center;\" title=\"Page 5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:right;\" title=\"Page 5\">Anna Zalewska<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:right;\" title=\"Page 5\">(project originator and coordinator)<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" style=\"text-align:right;\" title=\"Page 5\">contact: azalew@op.pl<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-365\" data-postid=\"365\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-365 themify_builder themify_builder_front\">\n\t<\/div>\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Archaeological revival of memory of the Great War.
